DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE :- The department of Political Science established in June 1986. Political science department is running graduate programme in Political Science in the jurisdiction of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The department has qualified & experienced staff having high teaching & research profile. Vision :- The department of Political Science endeavors to produce such students who are trained in science of Politics and Administration in order to create free, just human society. Mission:- The department of Political Science strives to create such citizens in society who would contribute to the goal of establishment of free democratic secure and equalitarian society in Indian through pursuit of academic excellence in teaching, research and extension activities. SWOT Analysis :- STRENGTHS 1) Qualified and Experienced staff. 2) The Department provides a rich library to the students. 3) Teachers are able to teach with the help of audio – visual aids. 4) The Department provides a Internet facilities. 5) Computer with Internet Facility to staff and students. 6) Staff is engaged actively in research. 7) ONE U.G.C. projects completed and one U.G.C. projects on going. 8) Result of Department is 100%. 9) Teachers have their personal libraries. 10) Department has start short term course in Panchayati Raj. 11) Department has teaching students advances syllabus. 12) Guidance to the student about Indian Parliamentary system. 13) Department has good academic culture. WEAKNESSES 1) Student of the department having deprived backward region. 2) Poor communication skills. 3) The central library is not open for the students everyday but some selected days. 4) They have economically poor and negative attitude to the get admission to self financed course or career oriented Courses. 5) Computer facility should be enhanced. 6) College run in rural area so student have not approach to higher education because no availability of near P.G., Centers. 7) The students are belong to rural area so they have to face many difficulties. OPPORTUNITIES 1) Organization of University level and state level conferences. 2) Starting of short term course. 3) M.A.P.G. courses available in Kolhapur, Satara, Karad, Sangli, Solapur and Pune. 4) Competitive exam guidance from the top college in the town. 5) The students have many opportunities to work for central government sector. 6) To organize group discussion on issues social national and international level. 7) Questions bank, Newspaper clips. Future Plan :- 1) To create awareness among the people about by The Constitution of India. 2) To create the Awareness about the ‘Right to Information Act’. 3) To enable the people to perform their duty of the Rights of vote. 4) To Organize the National Level Seminars. 5) To make aware people about the declining image of Indian Parliamentary system.
