DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY 
Departmental History: 
The science faculty was establishment at the time of opening of the college in 1968. For further augmentation in scientific knowledge of Zoology, the department was established in the year 1984. In order to fulfil scientific need, and to increase the horizon of life science of rural students, the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha granted permission to introduce the subject Zoology. So, the Department of Zoology was the first to be established in the vicinity of Jurisdiction of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. 
Vision:
To prepare students for various courses such as BMT, DMLT, Paramedical courses, Post –graduation in Life Sciences, Competitive Examinations, B.Sc. (Nursing), Dairy Technology, Poultry Technology, Fisheries, Sericulture, Apiculture, Goat Farming etc.
Mission: 
After completion of the B.Sc. Zoology course the students will be registered for the Higher education courses such as M.Sc. (Zoology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Marine Biology) M.B.A., M.SW. Similarly the needy students will achieve their jobs.

6. The beneficial Project work Ex. Vermicomposting, Rearing and propagation of Guppy. 
7. Farmers Library/Cell with Journal Agrobios, Baliraja. 
8. Mulberry and Tussar Sericulture extension.
9. Bio visual charts adequate-No.55.

11. Remedial Course for B.Sc. I students belonging to SC, ST, NT, VJNT, OBC students.

5. Portable vermicomposting pits/organic farming.

8. Short term certificate course on sericulture for undergraduates.
9. Organization of National Science day. 
Future Plan:
1. To apply for P.G. course provided sufficient number of students. 
2. To involve maximum number of students in an applied project work. 
3. Organic farming-Extension lectures for farmers. 
4. Coaching for preparation of portable vermicomposting pits. 
5. To aware farmers about Pest control by biological method in Krishna river basin 
6. Routine Socio economical useful project work for degree students. 
7. Study of Biodiversity within in premises and Sagareeshwar sanctuary.
8. Genetic Counselling of youth. 
Facilities:
1. Spacious, well equipped and well-furnished two laboratories.- Total area-115sq. meters. 
2. Computer facilities- 2 Computers with internet facilities. 
3. Departmental Library- No. of books- 54. 
4. Zoological museum- No. of Specimens –280 a. Non- chordate - 113 b. Chordates – 166 
    c. Stuffed animals - 07 
5. Modern equipment’s and instruments which include Digital field Camera(DSR), ECG machine, 
      Electrophoretic Unit, Soxhlet Unit, Research microscope & Slide projector, pH meter. 
6. LCD projector (2 Number) for PowerPoint presentation. 
7. Interacting teaching with the help of charts. COC/Short Term Course name and syllabus:
